Elaine
I returned to Katrina's class after some years of having a break from art. The encouragement and inspiration she gives enabled me to enjoy art again.
Katrina is inspiring and suggests artists new to us. I feel I have learned a great deal.
What's On
Children's Classes

With a BA (Hons) Fine Art and Level 5 TT, she's got 144 years of creative experience (give or take a century). A multitasking wizard with the wildest, craziest ideas, she's always on the hunt for the next big thing to try, fearless and fun! Allergic to basically everything (especially food), she demands her sacred coffee hour between 12 and 1pm, early or late is simply unacceptable. OG Frida Kahlo fan before it was cool, she's never met a clash of colours or patterns she didn't love. Our one-of-a-kind fearless creative queen and style icon rolled into one!
(Disclaimer: The Digital Content Manager takes no responsibility for the chaos and coffee-based demands described above.)

KATRINA ATKINSON

Our ARTXTRA lead tutor is a pocket rocket, tiny but mighty! Don't let the sweet tooth and love of cake fool you; her headmistress voice could silence a room. She's in her element with a classroom full of young children, usually covered in paint, glitter, and the occasional snack (often in her hair). Hair is her crowning glory; she swirls it when deep in thought. A hard worker and fearless experimenter, she's always up for a challenge. At home, she wrangles with her two poodles: Meryl (naughty) named after her favourite student, and Sweep (nice), who've destroyed her garden and any cushion in sight. Four daily walks keep the peace. You might spot her scaling shelves, ladder-free, despite being our health and safety officer.

DENISE MAWDSLEY

She's our smiley superstar who keeps the studio humming, organising pots, washing brushes, and whipping up the best coffee you'll ever taste (seriously, it's unforgettable!). Always up for a good chat, she's the friendly face everyone loves to see. When she's not making magic behind the scenes, she's out in her stunning garden or doodling away in her sketchbook, dreaming up new ideas. With her infectious energy and endless warmth, she's the secret ingredient that makes our studio feel like a creative home, away from home.

PATRICIA ATKINSON
Always talked about, rarely seen, and the genius who made this very website! Fresh from graduating in acting and theatre-making, she's ready to conquer the big wide world of stage. You might've caught her as a TV extra (blink and you'll miss her), but watch out, her next big thing is definitely Shakespeare or a period drama. When she's not busy behind the scenes creating digital magic, she steps in to facilitate children's classes, sprinkling a little extra fun and flair. The ultimate multitasker and full-on legend in the making!

He's the guy who literally pops his head around the corner just to say hi, and maybe sneak a peek at your masterpiece. Time? Class schedule? He's got no clue (and honestly, neither do we). You'll probably spot him sprinting off late to yet another appointment. Always juggling tech fixes, multiple degrees and heavy lifting like a pro, well, unless his back's throwing a tantrum. With a knack for making things work and a smile that's impossible to ignore, he's the lovable chaos coordinator who keeps our studio ticking and our spirits high.

Caterpillar is our beloved art school dog and heart of the studio. A friendly jackpot (Jack Russell x Poodle), she takes her role as Welfare Officer very seriously, offering tail wags, calming cuddles, and gentle supervision to anyone in need of a creative break. Whether she's snoozing in a sunny corner on HER chair, greeting students with enthusiasm, or quietly boosting morale during a tricky painting session, Caterpillar brings warmth, joy, and a touch of fur-covered comfort to all. She's here to remind us to stretch, breathe, and never underestimate the power of a well-timed paw.
